2011 Waterloo Regional

2056 and 1114 scoring

Team 1114 and Simbot Steve entered the 2011 Waterloo Regional looking to continue their winning ways established at the Pittsburgh Regional in Week 2. We entered Friday’s qualification matches with a difficult schedule ahead of us that saw us face strong competitors such as 2056 and 610 three times each. Despite some tough competition in Friday’s matches we ended the day 9-0 with a Ranking Score of 58, almost 20 higher than any other competitor. We capped off Friday by receiving the Website Award at the end of the day. After two more victories on Saturday morning, we finished as the number 1 seed with a record of 11-0. We were able to form a strong elimination alliance with teams 2056, OP Robotics from Stoney Creek and 3756, RAM-Ferno from London. The first quarterfinal match saw us temporarily set the worldwide high score of 138 only to be topped with a new high score of 147 in QF 1-2. The semi-finals saw us continue our high scoring ways despite strong competition from the fourth seeded alliance and we were able to obtain scores of 150 and 149 (152 before penalties). After two wins in the finals we walked away with our second regional victory of the 2011 season and were also presented with the GM Industrial Design Award during the closing ceremonies. Thank you to our rookie team 3756 from London for great defence during the elimination rounds and for being so easy to work with. We were glad to have you available to select in the second round and congratulations on a well-deserved Rookie All-Star Award. Thanks again to OP Robotics for their consistent tube and minibot scoring and congratulations on 10 consecutive regional victories! Thanks to all parents, family and friends who made the trip to Waterloo to show Simbot Spirit, see everyone again in Toronto next weekend!
