2010 Pittsburgh Regional

Pittsburgh was the first competition of the 2010 season for Simbotics. After practice matches Thursday night and Friday morning, Simbot Quatchi entered the qualifications with a high score of 20. Friday’s qualification rounds went well and through seven matches 1114 was the number one seed by a margin of 12 seeding points over team 63, with a total of seeding score of 141. Friday also brought another award to Team 1114, the Xerox Creativity Award for the unique way in which Quatchi hangs off of the vertical support bars of the tower. After Saturday’s qualification matches, Simbotics were in first and selected Team 63, “The Red Barons“, and Team 117, “The Steel Dragons”, to join our alliance. Fighting through some tough competition and strong defence, we prevailed and were able to win our first Pittsburgh Regional. Thanks to 63 for some excellent close zone scoring and to 117 for great defence on some very capable offensive machines. Also, congratulations to fellow Canadian team, 2809, “K-Botics“. Coming off a strong 2009 rookie year, K-Botics showed great improvement throughout the weekend and gave us quite a scare in Saturday’s elimination semi-finals. Can’t wait to see you guys again in Toronto. Thanks to team members and family who made the trip to Pittsburgh and showed great team spirit. Congrats Quatchi!
