Simbotics entered the 2011 Championships hoping to improve upon last year’s World Finalists placing. Joining Team 1114 in the Galileo Division were many strong teams including 254, 469, 111 and fellow Canadian teams 610 and 188. After Thursday and Friday qualifying matches, a few tough losses left us at 6-2-0 in 16th place.
Friday night Simbotics had the opportunity to attend a concert of the Black Eyed Peas. At the concert, Team 359, The Hawaiian Kids were honoured with the 2011 Chairman’s Award. Congratulations goes out to them, a well deserved honour.
On Saturday we were able to win our remaining two matches, leaving us in 10th place, just shy of the top 8 alliance captains. Team 1771, The North STARS, selected us with the first pick. In the second round we were able to select 2010 World Champions, Team 294, Beach Cities Robotics. After winning the quarterfinals, we faced a tough alliance in the semis consisting of 469, 610 and 188. After two hard fought matches, we were eliminated. The #2 alliance of 254, 111 and 973 ended up Division Champions and World Champions after defeating 2016, 177 and 781 in the finals.
Congratulations on 254, The Cheesy Poofs, on their first World Championship and to Team 111, WildStang, on their third. Canada was well represented on Einstein with two Division Champions, Team 1503, Spartonics, and Team 781, Kinectic Knights.
