Simbotics, Team 1114 entered the 2013 season after an amazing 2012 season where we were recognized with a spot in the FIRST Hall of Fame as Championship’s Chairman’s Award Winners and trip to Einstein with our friends from 2056 OP Robotics and 4334 Alberta Tech Alliance, The “Eh” team.
Attempting to build on the accomplishments of 2012, Simbotics and its 2013 robot, Simbot B.A. Baracus entered their first competition of the year, the Greater Toronto East Regional. The event was an international affair with teams representing Canada, United States and Mexico. After a busy day in the pits on Thursday, Simbot B.A. debuted in the first match of the event on Friday morning. At the end of a successful Friday, Simbotics was near the top of the standings with an 8-0-1 record. During the awards ceremonies, Team 1114 mentor, James Cerar was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year for all his contributions to FIRST Robotics Canada. Congratulations on a well-deserved honour James!
Simbot B.A had another successful day on Saturday morning and finished the event with an 11-0-1 record and a second place finish in the qualification matches. We were honoured to be selected by our friends Team 2056 to compete together in the elimination rounds and were thrilled to be able to select Team 1325, Inverse Paradox, in the second round. The elimination rounds saw our reach 200 points on two separate occasions while setting the world high score with 211 points as we became Regional Winners. Congratulations to all teams on hard fought elimination matches and thank you to our alliance partners for their help in achieving those great scores.
We can’t wait to see what’s in store next at the Waterloo Regional where we will be joined by even more great Canadian teams.
