Center of Gravity

Centre of Gravity (CoG)

  • Simplifying a object with distributed weight to a centroid location at which the weight of the object acts
  • Found by using a weighted average of the CoG of each part within object
  • mobject · xCoG = ∑mi · xi
  • (8 + 1 + 2 + 5) · xCoG = 8 · x + 1 · x + 2 · (3 · 3) + 5 · (3 · x)
  • xCoG = 8 + 1 + 2 · 3 + 5 · 38 + 1 + 2 + 5 · x = 3016 · x = 1.88 x
  • yCoG = 8 · 3 + 1 + 2 · 3 + 5 8 + 1 + 2 + 5 · y = 3616 · y = 2.25 · y
